Fire Premier close 2007 season with full scrimmage-friendly against Chicago Fire and fall 4-0

BRIDGEVIEW, IL, Aug 9, 2007 -- The Chicago Fire's new head coach Juan Carlos Osorio jumped at the chance for his first team Chicago Fire players to participate in a full scrimmage match with their affiliated developmental of the Chicago Fire Premier for two simple reasons. First -- most of the CFP players are due to report for the official beginning of their 2007 college seasons on Monday, the preceding Friday morning seemed like the perfect time for the CFP players to show the new "head man" just how much they had learned during their important summer training months with Larry Sunderland and Paul Cadwell of the CFP. And second, the Fire have the weekend off from the MLS schedule, so he wanted to keep his new squad sharp for the remainder of the tough MLS schedule.

The CFP youngsters didn't disappoint the new head coach of the Fire with the quality of their play and the Chicago Fire didn't disappoint the young college-bound CFP Players. When the CFP took the field at 9:00 am for the full-out scrimmage with an experienced FIFA referee crew they were pitted against Blanco, newly acquired Paulo Wanchope, CJ Brown, former CFP players Chris Rolfe, Dasan Robison, and Brian Plotkin, as starters in their "friendly" match.  . . . Read more

Fire Premier Super-20s pull a 2-1 upset of DC United to win group A and advance to semi-finals on Saturday evening

EPPING, NEW HAMPSHIRE, -- The Fire Premier Super-20s have made a habit of taking the toughest road to get to their destination throughout the 2007 season. Chicago was one of only four teams in the national Super-20 League that went undefeated (although they collected three ties throug the regular season). Now they continue to defy the odds by knocking off DC United for the right to advance to the national Semi-Finals later this evening.

Of course, the CFP needed some help when Diablo Valley SC met Beachside SC in the other Group A match (at 9:00 am) and they got exactly what they needed because Diablo defeated Beachside by a 3-2 score. Beachside had lost to DC United but defeated the CFP yesterday, so a Beachside victory would have put DC United through to the semis -- even if Chicago could knock off DC United. . . . Read more

CFP Super 20s drop a tough 2-1 decision to Beachside with a "must-win" coming with DC United on Saturday

EPPING, NEW HAMPSHIRE, Aug 3, 2007 -- The CFP Super-20s may have been looking too far ahead (to Saturday's match with DC United) when they failed to win a critical pool match against the Beachside SC by dropping the 2-1 decision.

Chicago has now set the stage for a must-win scenario against DC United -- who leads the pool with a 2-0-0 record, but they will also need some help from Diablo Valley who meet Beachside in the 9:00 am matchup. A Diablo Valley victory will likely put DC United through to the semi-finals regardless of the outcome of Chicago-DC United match.

Fire Premier fall to Michigan Bucks by a 3-0 score to end a great 2007 campaign

DETROIT, MI, -- CFP head coach Larry Sunderland explained that the Michigan Bucks simply have too much talent and experience to be playing at the PDL level, so his squad's 3-0 loss to the defending national champions was not all that surprising. "We played as well as we have this season," said Sunderland, "but the Bucks are really a handful. They have four players that are clearly older, more talented, and more experienced than any PDL team we play with this year.

"Our fellows held them scoreless for 57 minutes, but they just keep coming at you and eventually they scored their first goal. I have to believe that would make it to the PDL's Final Four if we didn't have to get past a very talented Michigan squad in order to accomplish that."  . . . Read more

Fire Premier's season ends with 4-1 loss to the Michigan Bucks in Central Conference Finals in Des Moines

DES MOINES, IA, Jul 29, 2006 -- The Michigan Bucks have been scoring goals in bunches -- here at the end of the 2006 season. Tonight's final match was no exception as they dominated the Fire Premier, 4-1, to win the Central Conference title and move on to the national semi-finals next week at their home field against Orange County (CA) . Three distinct things hurt the Fire Premier's effort against Michigan. First was the extended overtime match on Friday night. Second was the very limited bench that brought an end to the Fire Premier's 2006 season. And third was the missing group of five players who helped the CFP throughout the season, but were playing in the USYSA National Finals with Chicago Magic U-18 boys squad who lost the national title on PKs. The Chicago Fire Premier (15-3-0) could never get on track against the Michigan Bucks who were clearly the best team in the four-team playoffs in DesMoines, despite the strong field of competition with Chicago, Boulder (CO), and Des Moines.

Michigan's fleet footed forwards and speedy midfield simply wore down the depleted CFP who played a very tough and physically draining 120-minute match that ended nearly at midnight on Friday evening. After a series on unfortunate injuries during the week of practices and the absence of several other players, Coach Mike Matkovich found his bench had only two substitutes for the difficult weekend's matches.  . . . Read more

DES MOINES, IOWA, Jul 28, 2006 -- The Chicago Fire Premier (15-2-0) began their post-season run with the playoff cards stacked against them. They had to travel to Des Moines, Iowa and they opened the post-season against the 2005 PDL Champion Des Moines Menace (10-4-2). They arrived with only 13 players and faced some extremely hot temperatures in the capital city of the Iowa. In the end, Chicago advanced with a 5-3 advantage in the PK shoot-out that followed one of the truly historic PDL playoff matches ever after Chicago's Brad North put his stamp on the OT play with a pair of goals.

Each team managed just one goal in regulation time, moving the game into the once-again changed overtime format. Last year the PDL played under a "golden goal format", but in 2006 the USL adopted the FIFA rules for two full 15-minute periods. . . . Read more

LEMONT, IL, Jul 15, 2006 -- The Kansas City Brass had the balance of their 2006 season at stake for a playoff spot when they traveled to Chicago to meet the championship Chicago Fire Premier. Chicago celebrates its sixth straight Great Lakes Division title (2001-2006) as the focus turns towards post-season play

CHICAGO, IL, Jul 10, 2006 -- When John Dorn (photo left) set his mind to bring back USL soccer to Chicago there was no way he could have imagined the success his efforts would find during his tenure as President of Agamon Soccer. After the 1999 season Palatine's Peter Richardson decided to fold up the tent on his Chicago Stingers operations following a very successful run as one of the premier teams in the USL. So that left a void because there weren't any organized soccer programs at the semi-professional level for developing youth-aged and college-aged players.

In the process of developing a conceptual and operating model for the Chicago Fire Reserves (later renamed -- the Chicago Fire Premier) Dorn added a couple partners including his co-general manager Mark Boyle of Chicago's Beverly neighborhood. . . . Read more

CHICAGO, Jun 18, 2006 -- The Premier had given up only 5 goals in their first 7 matches of the 2006 season. So Premier head coach Mike Matkovitch had every reason to question what turned his defense into a porous mess as the Indiana Invaders collected 3 goals in the Premier's 4-3 win. Chicago avenges only loss of the 2006 season in Kalamazoo with 3-2 victory

After dropping a 2-0 decision to Kalamazoo back on May 21st in Chicago it was time for Chicago to prove that the earlier decision may not have reflected Chicago's best effort for the 2006 campaign.

Chicago (6-1-0, 18 points) jumped out to a 2-0 lead and led 2-1 at the intermission. The Kingdom tied the score in the 48th minute, but Chicago's David Guzman (photo-left) netted the winning goal in the 58th minute to keep Chicago in 1st place in the Great Lakes Division.  . . . Read more

Chicago coaches are still looking to return a solid number of injured players back into their starting lineup.
